Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has paid tribute to the late County Cheif of Busiro County, Ponsiano Kawotto (P.K.) Ssengendo, in recognition of his dedicated service to the Buganda Kingdom and his community.
In a message delivered by the Kingdom Minister of Local Government, Kabaka’s Tours and Diaspora Affairs, Joseph Kawuki, during a funeral mass held at St Mary’s Cathedral, Lubaga, on Tuesday, Mutebi commended the late Ssengendo for his unwavering commitment to the Kingdom and his exemplary public service.
“Throughout his life, the late Ssengendo served the kingdom faithfully in Busiro County. We remember his work, which was marked by diligence and dedication, as he contributed immensely to the development of the county,” the Kabaka’s message read.
In his personal remarks, Kawuki noted that Ssengendo had been a source of inspiration in government service, guiding leaders to be conscientious and dedicated employees who always acted in service of the Kabaka.
The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Paul Ssemogerere, highlighted the late Ssengendo’s commitment to faith, noting that he remained devout to his religion until the end. Ssemogerere emphasized that the deceased’s contributions were worthy of recognition both within the church and the nation, urging everyone to honor his legacy.
Ssemogerere also encouraged future generations and descendants not to allow the legacy and contributions of the late Ssengendo to fade, but to uphold the values he embodied.
The widow, Mrs. Jessy Christine Ssengendo, shared that her late husband battled illness for an extended period and expressed her gratitude for the unwavering love and care he consistently showed their children throughout his life.
Ssetimba Magoba also praised Ssengendo for his devotion to faith, generosity to people from all walks of life, and love for humanity. He urged everyone present to honor the late Ssengendo by continuing to foster unity and pray for the family.
Born on September 8, 1941, the late Ssengendo passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, after a period of illness resulting from injuries sustained in an accident while returning from the bank.
He was 84.
The memorial service was attended by prominent figures, including the former Katikkiro’s including Joseph Mulwannyamuli Ssemogerere, Dan Muliika, and Eng. J.B Walusimbi, members of the Buganda Lukiiko, Rev. Elijah Kyobe, Lauben Kalibbala, and other senior government officials.
The late Ssengendo will be laid to rest tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in Kamuli, Busiro, beginning with mass at 12 noon.
